Take Part!: Young Active Citizens on the Road to Parliament

The voices of young people should be heard in every community, but their engagement and participation in local decision making can often be seen as an uphill struggle. Through creative session design and skilled facilitation, young people disengaged from school and wider community activity opted to ‘Take Part’ and were supported to develop their own campaigns, reflecting their own bugbears. Campaigns were then presented and launched to their local MP in the Houses of Parliament, instilling a sense of pride amongst the young people, and a recognition that their views are as important as those of others. Outcomes included young people getting into work, taking up further education opportunities, and ongoing development of their individual and collective campaigns and projects.
